Pharmacology and toxicology:
Pharmacological properties: Phloroglucinol and trimethylphloroglucinol have antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle, anti-nociceptive effect on internal organs, especially the inhibitory effect on acute pain attacks. Phloroglucinol acts directly on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, and is a myotropic non-atropine non-papaverine pure smooth muscle antispasmodic drug. Compared with other smooth muscle antispasmodics, phloroglucinol is characterized by no anticholinergic effect, and will not produce a series of anticholinergic side effects while relieving smooth muscle spasm. Phloroglucinol does not cause symptoms such as hypotension, increased heart rate, arrhythmia, and has no effect on cardiovascular function. Animal pharmacological tests show that it only acts on spastic smooth muscle and has little effect on normal smooth muscle.
