On June 18, 2022, the inaugural thesis proposal defense meeting for the first postdoctoral researcher at Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group’s Postdoctoral Research Workstation was held in the 17th-floor conference room of the company headquarters. Attendees included Xiao Linghong, Deputy Director of Wenling City’s Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security; Xiang Shengchang, doctoral supervisor from Fujian Normal University; incoming postdoctoral fellow Wang Jian; and Chen Jun, General Manager of Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group.

Mr. Chen, on behalf of Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group, warmly welcomed Dr. Wang Jian, the first postdoctoral fellow to join the workstation, and expressed gratitude to the Wenling Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau as well as the leaders from Fujian Normal University for their strong support of this initiative.
At the postdoctoral research workstation, General Manager Chen stated that in the future, the company will focus on three key areas of work:
■ First, we will refine the working mechanisms. This includes further establishing and improving the various systems and operational safeguards for postdoctoral research workstations, while also strengthening collaboration and exchange mechanisms between universities, research institutions, medical organizations, and industry on innovation, education, research, and application.
■ Second, we will enhance our support services. In the coming phase, we will increase investment in building postdoctoral research workstations, refining both the software and hardware infrastructure to create a comprehensive service system. This will provide an excellent working and research environment for more R&D personnel, ensuring they receive maximum support and assistance for their doctoral studies.
■ Third, we will promote the output of tangible results. By actively attracting and nurturing more industry-leading talents, we’ll inject fresh energy into the company’s R&D team, enabling breakthroughs in key, game-changing technologies, accelerating the commercialization of scientific and technological innovations, and ultimately providing robust, technology-driven talent support for the company’s high-quality growth.
On-site academic review
The academic review phase was chaired and led by Zhang Jianbing, Deputy General Manager of the pharmaceutical group.
First, Xiang Shengchang, the postdoctoral supervisor from Fujian Normal University, will briefly introduce the university’s postdoctoral research station and provide an overview of the postdoctoral program.
Next, Dr. Wang Jian, an incoming postdoctoral researcher, delivered an opening report titled "Synthesis and Process Study of (R)-α-Lipoic Acid and Its Derivatives." Starting with the research background, Dr. Wang focused on outlining the main research objectives, the proposed research approach, and the detailed project timeline.
Third, the review experts posed on-the-spot questions to Dr. Wang Jian’s proposal presentation, focusing on aspects such as synthesis processes and environmental sustainability.
Finally, after a comprehensive review by the evaluation panel, Dr. Wang Jian’s research project, "Synthesis and Process Study of (R)-α-Lipoic Acid and Its Derivatives," was found to meet the requirements for the joint postdoctoral training program, and the panel unanimously approved the project proposal.
