Respiratory diseases—including asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cor pulmonale, and tuberculosis (excluding lung cancer)—rank as the fourth leading cause of death in urban areas (accounting for 13.1%) and the third in rural regions (16.4%). In recent years, the incidence of respiratory illnesses has risen significantly, driven by factors such as air pollution, smoking, exposure to physicochemical and biological agents linked to industrial growth, and the aging population. Notably, COPD remains alarmingly prevalent, affecting more than 8% of individuals aged 40 and older. Commonly prescribed medications include: 1) antibiotics—such as penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones, and macrolides; 2) bronchodilators—like compound clenbuterol and bromhexine capsules; 3) expectorants—such as bromhexine; 4) cough suppressants; 5) corticosteroids; and 6) anti-tuberculosis drugs, including isoniazid.
