Indications: This product is primarily indicated for respiratory, urinary, ENT, and skin/soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacological effects: This product is a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It exhibits similar activity against penicillinase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci, viridans streptococci, and Staphylococcus epidermidis as cefadroxil. However, it demonstrates 2- to 4-fold greater antibacterial efficacy against non-enzyme-producing Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae compared to cefadroxil. Additionally, this product displays superior activity against Gram-negative bacilli—such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae—compared to cephalexin, while remaining comparable to cefadroxil. It also outperforms cefadroxil in terms of activity against Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella species, and Shigella species.
At concentrations ranging from 2.9 to 8 mg/L, this product effectively inhibits all strains of Haemophilus influenzae, including those resistant to ampicillin. Moreover, Moraxella catarrhalis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae are highly sensitive to this antibiotic. Notably, indole-positive Proteus species, Serratia species, Acinetobacter species, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are inherently resistant to this medication.
The mechanism of action of this product is to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.
