On October 21, Academician Tang Xican from the Chinese Academy of Engineering visited Wanbangde Pharmaceutical for an inspection and guidance session, followed by a discussion and exchange. Representatives from the Wenling Science and Technology Association accompanied the visit.
Academician Tang Xican visited the workshop to closely inspect the product manufacturing process. After carefully listening to insights on key technologies, processes, and plans for building a new industrialization support platform related to pharmaceutical production and quality management, he highly praised the company's efforts in enhancing product quality and production efficiency, accelerating the commercialization and application of scientific and technological innovations, and boosting product added value.

Academician Tang Xican exchanges insights on product manufacturing processes with Chen An, Executive Deputy General Manager of Wanbangde Pharmaceutical.
During the symposium, Chen An, Executive Deputy General Manager of Wanbangde Pharmaceutical, openly sought advice from Academician Tang regarding the challenges and difficulties encountered in the in-depth development of the huperzine A project. After multiple rounds of discussion, Academician Tang provided valuable insights and recommendations to address the issues arising during the project’s research phase. Moreover, Academician Tang remarked: "In the 1980s, our research and development efforts in Alzheimer's disease treatments were on par with international standards. Huperzine A not only helps slow down the progression of Alzheimer's disease but also shows remarkable efficacy in addressing benign memory impairments. By collaborating with Wanbangde Pharmaceutical on this project, we aim to further expand the product’s therapeutic applications and elevate its quality to new heights. Currently, the huperzine A controlled-release tablet—now in Phase I clinical trials—is progressing smoothly. If all goes well, we plan to swiftly move into the next stage of research, bringing this innovative treatment to market as soon as possible to benefit patients worldwide."

Chen An, Executive Deputy General Manager of Wanbangde Pharmaceutical, explained that the company is currently collaborating with an academician team to develop a sustained-release formulation of huperzine A. This innovation allows patients to reduce their dosing frequency from twice daily to once daily, significantly improving treatment adherence. He noted that, due to the drug's dosage characteristics, higher doses can exert substantial peripheral cholinergic effects, leading to more pronounced gastrointestinal side effects. By transitioning huperzine A into a sustained-release formulation and carefully adjusting its plasma concentration profile within the body, the company has successfully minimized adverse reactions while enhancing the overall efficacy of the medication.
It is understood that since 2015, when Wanbangde Pharmaceutical established a cooperative relationship with Academician Tang Xican and set up the "Academician Expert Workstation," the two parties have engaged in in-depth collaboration on the huperzine A project. By leveraging their respective strengths and resources, they have jointly achieved significant progress. Thanks to the technical expertise provided by Academician Tang Xican and his research team, several huperzine A formulations have already yielded promising results: the huperzine A injection has entered mass production and sales, while the controlled-release tablets are now undergoing Phase I clinical trials. These developments are expected to significantly boost the company’s economic performance in the future.
