The Clinical Positioning Expert Workshop on Huperzine A Injection Successfully Held

On November 18, 2018, the "Clinical Positioning Expert Symposium on Huperzine A Injection," hosted by *Chinese Journal of Research Hospitals* and Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd., was grandly held in Beijing. Clinical experts from diverse fields—including anesthesiology, critical care medicine, neurology, and neurosurgery—as well as renowned pharmaceutical experts and scholars, attended and shared their insights. The event featured an in-depth discussion on the clinical positioning of Huperzine A Injection. Professor Xiong Lizze, former Chairman of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and other leading experts expressed keen interest in this uniquely Chinese-developed drug and offered valuable suggestions and guidance for future research directions on Huperzine A Injection.

More than 20 renowned experts and scholars from across the country attended this seminar, including Professor Xiong Lizze, former Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Xi'an Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University and former Chairman of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Professor Ningbo, Director of the Intensive Care Unit at the Air Force General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army and Chairman-elect of the ICU Committee at the China Association for International Exchange and Cooperation in Medical & Healthcare; Professor Zhang Tong, Vice President and Director of the Neurology Department at Beijing Boai Hospital; Professor Zhao Zhigang, Director of the Pharmacy Department at Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Affiliated to Capital Medical University; Professor Ma Jue, Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital; Professor Chang Cheng, Director of the Neurology Department at Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Professor Zheng Gaoli, Director of the Pharmacology Laboratory at the Institute of Drug Research, Zhejiang Academy of Medical Sciences; Professor Hu Changping, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Xiangya College of Central South University; Professor Zhang Hongfei, Deputy Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University; Professor Wang Hongwei, Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital; Professor Fu Xudong, Director of the Neurosurgery Department at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University; Professor Zheng Guoqing, Deputy Director of the Department of Neuropsychiatry at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University; and Professor Zhang Haiyan, a pharmacology researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The meeting began with an address by Zhao Shouming, Chairman of Wanbangde Group Co., Ltd. and Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd., who expressed gratitude to the esteemed experts and scholars attending the event. He then introduced Wanbangde Pharmaceutical and highlighted the company’s flagship products—Huperzine A Injection and Ginkgo Leaf Dropping Pills—before sharing his hopes for the upcoming research directions that are expected to emerge from this seminar.

Researcher Haiyan Zhang from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, provided a detailed overview of "Advances in Pharmacological and Therapeutic Studies on Huperzine A," setting the stage for future discussions that clinical and pharmaceutical experts can explore further. Qingqing Wang, Project Manager at Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd., presented on behalf of the company, offering an "Introduction to Huperzine A Injection and a Compilation of Relevant Research Literature on Brain Injury." Experts attending the meeting engaged in lively discussions, examining the clinical positioning of Huperzine A Injection from both clinical and pharmaceutical perspectives. They also delved into the feasibility of conducting research in areas such as postoperative cognitive dysfunction (including postoperative delirium and postoperative cognitive impairment), sepsis-associated encephalopathy, and other brain injury-related conditions.

The Shixianjianjia Injection was developed in 1985 through a collaborative effort between Wanbangde Pharmaceutical (formerly Wenling Pharmaceutical Factory), the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, and the Zhejiang Academy of Medical Sciences. It is a natural herbal medicine and stands as one of China’s rare globally original drugs. As the original research and development manufacturer of this product, Wanbangde Pharmaceutical aims to identify an appropriate clinical positioning through this expert seminar, paving the way for post-marketing re-evaluation and the exploration of new therapeutic applications.
